Genesis 6:1–2; Jude 6–7; 2 Peter 2:4; Matthew 24:37–39
When mankind began to multiply, “the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose.”
Experiencing Christ Commentary explains that the “sons of God” here were fallen angels who left their proper dwelling (Jude 6) and mingled with human women. This was Satan’s strategy to corrupt humanity so that the seed of woman (Christ) could not come. The result was abnormal, corrupted offspring — a mixture of heavenly beings and human flesh.
God’s purpose depends on a pure humanity through which Christ could be born. Satan’s attempt to frustrate this purpose brought about a flood of judgment. This shows us how serious mixture is before God.
Main Points:
- The “sons of God” were fallen angels intruding into human life.
- Satan sought to corrupt humanity to frustrate God’s plan of salvation.
- God’s holiness requires separation — no mixture between His people and the enemy.
