Devotional 284: The Waters Receded and the Ark Rested

Genesis 8:2–5; Psalm 29:10; Romans 8:1; Hebrews 4:9–10

The fountains of the deep and the windows of heaven were closed, and the rain from heaven was restrained. The waters gradually receded, and the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.

Experiencing Christ Commentary explains that judgment does not last forever. God Himself shut the sources of judgment and began to provide rest. The ark resting on Ararat typifies Christ in His resurrection.

Judgment had done its work, and now rest followed. For the believer, this points to our experience of Christ as rest after the burden of sin and condemnation has been removed (Rom. 8:1).

The mountains of Ararat signify resurrection ground, where we enjoy rest in Christ’s victory.

Main Points:

  • God Himself restrains judgment in His time.
  • The ark resting on Ararat signifies Christ’s resurrection victory.
  • In Christ, believers find true rest after judgment.

Cross References:

  • Psalm 29:10 – The Lord sits enthroned over the flood.
  • Romans 8:1 – No condemnation to those in Christ Jesus.
  • Hebrews 4:9–10 – A rest remains for the people of God.
  • John 16:33 – In Christ we have peace.
  • Isaiah 26:3 – Perfect peace to those whose minds are stayed on Him.

Prayer Points:

Lord, thank You for ending judgment in Christ.

Anchor me in Your resurrection ground.

Deliver me from fear of condemnation.

Lord, be my rest and peace in every storm.

Keep me resting in You until the end, Amen.
