Genesis 6:3; Isaiah 63:10; Ephesians 4:30; John 3:6
God declared, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is flesh.” Man, created for God’s Spirit, became fleshly and corrupt. God’s Spirit was grieved by man’s fallen condition.
Experiencing Christ Commentary reveals that flesh means man corrupted and filled with lust. When man lives in the flesh, the Spirit strives, but not endlessly.
Judgment must come when the Spirit is continually resisted. Yet God’s warning displays His mercy, allowing time for repentance.
Main Points:
- Man created for the Spirit became flesh through corruption.
- The Spirit strives with man, but not forever.
- God’s longsuffering is mercy, but judgment is sure.
Cross References:

Prayer Points:
Lord, deliver me from living as flesh.
Keep me sensitive to the Spirit’s striving.
Grant me repentance while there is still time.
Lord, fill me with Your Spirit of life.
Preserve me for Your purpose, not judgment, Amen, Amen.
