Genesis 5:3–5; Romans 5:14; Ecclesiastes 12:7; Hebrews 2:14–15
Adam lived 930 years, begot sons and daughters, and died. His death was the fulfillment of God’s warning in Genesis 2:17. The long years could not prevent the inevitable end—death.
Experiencing Christ Commentary shows that Adam passed on his fallen image to his descendants. Though he was created in God’s likeness, he begot a son in his own fallen likeness.
Yet in the midst of this, Romans 5:14 points to Christ, who would come as the second man to break the power of death.
Main Points:
- Adam’s long life still ended in death.
- Humanity bears Adam’s fallen image.
- Christ came to break the power of death.
Cross References:
- Genesis 2:17 – Death as the result of sin.
- Romans 5:14 – Adam a type of Him who was to come.
- Ecclesiastes 12:7 – Dust returns to dust.
- Hebrews 2:14–15 – Christ destroyed the one who held death’s power.
- 1 Corinthians 15:45 – The last Adam became a life-giving Spirit.
Prayer Points:
Lord, thank You for delivering me from Adam’s death.
Keep me living in Christ, not in the old man.
Free me from the fear of death by Your victory.
Lord, make me a testimony of life in a dying world.
Fill me with faith in the life-giving Spirit, Amen.
