Jeremiah 2:13 “For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, to hew out for themselves cisterns, broken cisterns, which hold no water.”
Christ is the fountain of life, an ever-flowing source of living water that never runs dry. In contrast to broken cisterns that hold no water, He is the inexhaustible supply that satisfies, strengthens, and refreshes us.
Forsaking the fountain of life leads to dryness, dissatisfaction, and spiritual death. Many believers unknowingly turn to the “broken cisterns” of the world—seeking satisfaction in human effort, material gain, or fleeting pleasures. However, true satisfaction comes only from returning to the Lord and drinking deeply of Him.
When we drink from the fountain of life, we receive His divine life and are nourished and strengthened to live the Christian life. This drinking is not a one-time event but a continuous experience, maintaining our connection with the source.
Main Points:
– Christ as the Fountain: He is the only reliable source of life and satisfaction.
– The Danger of Broken Cisterns: Turning to the world or self-effort leads to spiritual dryness.
– Daily Drinking: We must come to Christ daily to be refreshed and nourished.
– Overflowing Life: Drinking from the fountain equips us to minister life to others.
Reflections
Examine your heart for any “broken cisterns” you might be relying on. Turn to the Lord in prayer, acknowledging Him as your sole source of life, and spend time in His Word for refreshment.
Prayer Confessions:
Lord, forgive me for turning to broken cisterns that cannot satisfy.
Draw me back to You, the fountain of living waters, for my supply and refreshment.
Teach me to drink of You daily, maintaining my connection with Your life.
Strengthen me with Your divine life to live for You and express You.
Use me to bring others to drink of You as the fountain of life, Amen.
