Genesis 3:2–6; 1 Timothy 2:14; James 1:14–15; 1 John 2:16
Eve entered into dialogue with the serpent, considering his suggestion. She saw that the tree was good for food, pleasant to the eyes, and desirable to make one wise, and she ate. This reveals the threefold temptation: lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and pride of life (1 John 2:16).
The danger of reasoning with the enemy is that it opens the door for deception. James 1:14–15 shows that desire gives birth to sin, and sin brings forth death. Eve’s deception warns us never to add to or alter God’s word, but to hold fast to it.
Main Points:
- The serpent tempts by appealing to flesh, eyes, and pride.
- Reasoning with the enemy leads to deception and sin.
- Our safety is in standing firm in God’s clear word.

Prayer Points:
Lord, deliver me from the lust of the flesh, eyes, and pride.
Teach me not to reason with temptation but to resist it.
Keep me faithful to Your pure word without alteration.
Lord, strengthen me to overcome the subtle bait of sin.
