Devotional 195: Abiding in the Anointing and Overcoming the Flesh

One of the most significant aspects of abiding in the anointing is the power it gives us to overcome the flesh. The flesh, as our fallen human nature, desires to control our thoughts, emotions, and actions. However, through the anointing of the Spirit, we have the ability to put to death the deeds of the flesh and live according to the Spirit.

The key to overcoming the flesh is not willpower or self-effort, but abiding in the anointing. The Spirit empowers us to resist the desires of the flesh and to live according to God’s will. As we remain in the Spirit, we begin to experience victory over sin and the flesh, and we walk in newness of life.

This process is not instantaneous; it is a continual journey of transformation. Each day, as we abide in the anointing, the power of the Spirit becomes more effective in us, enabling us to put away the old nature and live in the freedom that Christ has provided.

Main Points:

  • Overcoming the Flesh: Abiding in the anointing empowers us to overcome the desires of the flesh.
  • Victory in the Spirit: We are able to put to death the deeds of the body by the power of the Spirit.
  • A Process of Transformation: Overcoming the flesh is a continual process as we live in the Spirit.
  • Living in Freedom: Through abiding in the anointing, we experience the freedom that comes with walking according to the Spirit.

Reflection/Activity:

Reflect on areas of your life where you may be struggling with the flesh or sin. Pray for the anointing of the Holy Spirit to give you the strength to overcome and live according to the Spirit. Ask the Lord to show you how to cooperate with the Spirit in this ongoing process of transformation.
