Deuteronomy 8:8
“A land of wheat and barley, and vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey.”
John 12:24
“Unless the grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it abides alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.”
The good land is a land of wheat and barley, which typify Christ in His incarnation, crucifixion, and resurrection.
Wheat: Christ’s Death and Life-Giving Nature
Wheat represents Christ as the grain that fell into the ground and died to produce life (John 12:24).
By experiencing His death, we partake of His life, allowing His divine life to grow in us and bear fruit.
Barley: Christ’s Resurrection Power
Barley, as the first crop of harvest, signifies the power of resurrection.
When we experience difficulties and challenges, we can touch Christ’s resurrection life, which lifts us above every situation.
The wheat and barley of the good land reveal that Christ is both our life and our overcoming power. As we partake of Him in His death and resurrection, we are nourished and empowered to live a victorious Christian life.
