Devotional 63: Baptism into the Body of Christ

Baptism is not only a personal act but also a corporate experience, for it brings us into the Body of Christ. The Body of Christ is the expression of Christ in His many members, and baptism is the entrance into this living organism.

Ephesians 4:4-6 reveals the oneness of the Body. Through one baptism, we are brought into one Body, joined to Christ as the Head and to one another as fellow members. This oneness is not outward but organic, rooted in the Spirit and made real through baptism.

1 Corinthians 12:13 shows that by the Spirit, we are baptized into one Body and made to drink of the Spirit. Baptism brings us into a new realm of living—a realm where we function not as isolated individuals but as coordinated members of the Body of Christ.

Living in the Body means living in fellowship, coordination, and oneness. It is through this corporate living that Christ is expressed fully.
