Devotional 61: The Significance of Baptism into the Name of the Triune God

Baptism, as commanded by the Lord in Matthew 28:19, is more than an outward ceremony—it is an entrance into the name of the Triune God. This divine name signifies the person, authority, and essence of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Through baptism, we are brought into an organic union with the Triune God, entering a living relationship with Him.

Romans 6:3 reveals that we are baptized into Christ’s death. This means that baptism ushers us into the efficacy of Christ’s death, where our old life is terminated. As we come out of the waters of baptism, we enter into resurrection life, germinated with the new life of Christ.

Moreover, baptism places us into the Body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:13). This incorporation into the Body is not merely positional but organic. It is through baptism that we become members of this living organism, united with Christ as the Head and with fellow believers as members of His Body.

This spiritual reality brings us out of our old state—dominated by the natural life—and into a new realm of living by the elements of the Triune God. The old is terminated, and the new is germinated, enabling us to live for the Body of Christ.
