Devotional 228: The Living Creatures of the Waters and the Sky

Genesis 1:20–23; Psalm 104:25–26; Matthew 4:19; Revelation 4:6–7

On the fifth day, God created the living creatures of the waters and the birds of the heavens. The waters teemed with fish and sea life, and the skies were filled with birds. This marks a higher level of life in creation compared to vegetation.

Spiritually, the fish represent those called to live and move in the flow of God’s Spirit, while the birds signify those who soar in the heavenly realm. The Lord Jesus called His disciples to be “fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19). The blessing to “be fruitful and multiply” given here indicates that God desires increase, propagation, and fullness of life.

Main Points:

  • The fifth day shows a progression to higher forms of life.
  • Fish represent life in the Spirit’s flow, and birds signify life in the heavenly realm.
  • God blesses His creatures to be fruitful and multiply, revealing His purpose of increase.
