Devotional 171: Christ as the Head of the Body

Christ’s role as the Head of the Body is central to God’s purpose for the church. As the Head, Christ directs, governs, and supplies the entire Body. Just as a physical body cannot function without its head, the church cannot function apart from Christ.

Christ’s headship is not a matter of mere doctrine but of practical experience. He governs the Body by supplying it with life and wisdom. This supply comes through our connection to Him in spirit. When we remain joined to Christ as the Head, we receive His direction and are nourished for growth and function.

However, the enemy seeks to disconnect believers from the Head by fostering independence, self-reliance, or division. The Spirit works to keep us connected, ensuring that Christ has the first place in all things. As each member submits to the Head, the Body grows in harmony, oneness, and effectiveness.

Main Points:
– Christ as the Head: He directs and supplies the Body with life and wisdom.
– Connection to the Head: Our union with Christ enables us to receive His supply.
– Enemy’s Tactics: The enemy seeks to disrupt our connection to Christ.
– Submission and Harmony: The Body grows as each member submits to the Head.

Reflections
Spend time in prayer, acknowledging Christ as the Head of your life and the church. Reflect on areas where you may have acted independently, and ask the Lord to restore and strengthen your connection to Him.

Prayer Confessions:
Lord, keep me connected to You as the Head of the Body.
Supply me with Your life and wisdom to fulfill my function in the Body.
Guard me from independence or division, keeping me joined to You.
Give You the first place in all things, individually and corporately.
Let the church grow in harmony under Your headship, Amen.
