Colossians 1:18 “And He is the Head of the Body, the church; He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that He Himself might have the first place in all things.”
Christ is the Head of the Body, the church. As the Head, He is the source of life, authority, and direction for His Body. Just as the human body cannot function without the head, the church cannot live or move apart from Christ. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, ensuring His preeminence in all things.
To live under Christ’s headship is to recognize Him as our authority and to submit to His rule in every aspect of our lives. It means allowing His life to flow into us and through us, coordinating all the members in harmony. When the Body submits to the Head, it expresses the fullness of Christ and fulfills God’s eternal purpose.
Living under Christ’s headship also involves learning to reject our natural independence and self-rule. The more we depend on Him and live under His authority, the more we are built up together as one Body in Him.
Main Points:
– Christ as Source: Christ is the source of life and authority for the Body.
– Headship and Submission: Living under Christ’s headship requires submission to His authority.
– Flow of Life: Christ’s life flows from the Head to every member, coordinating the Body.
– Expressing Christ: The Body under the Headship of Christ expresses His fullness.
Reflections
Reflect on areas of your life where you may not be fully submitted to Christ’s headship. Pray for the grace to yield to Him and allow His life to flow through you.
Prayer Confessions:
Lord, I acknowledge You as the Head of the Body and the source of my life.
Teach me to live under Your headship and submit to Your authority in all things.
Let Your life flow through me to build up the Body.
Help me reject self-rule and independence, living wholly dependent on You.
May the church as Your Body fully express Your life and glory, Amen.
