Romans 12:4–5 “For just as in one body we have many members, and all the members do not have the same function, so we who are many are one Body in Christ, and individually members one of another.”
Every believer is a member of the Body of Christ and has a specific function. The Body is not composed of isolated individuals but of members who are interdependent and coordinated. Each member has a unique role, and the proper functioning of the Body depends on every member fulfilling their function.
Functioning in the Body requires us to recognize and appreciate the portion of Christ in one another. It also calls for humility, as we cannot fulfill our role apart from the grace of God. When each member functions according to their measure, the Body is built up in love and grows in Christ.
It is essential to seek the Lord for a clear understanding of our portion in the Body. As we exercise our gifts and serve in coordination with others, we contribute to the building up of the Body and the fulfillment of God’s purpose.
Main Points:
– Individual Functions: Each member has a unique role in the Body of Christ.
– Interdependence: The Body grows through the coordination and functioning of every member.
– Serving by Grace: Fulfilling our function depends on the grace of God.
– Building Up the Body: Functioning leads to the building up of the Body in love.
