Matthew 11:28-29, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
One of the greatest promises in the Christian life is the rest that we find in Christ. This rest is not simply the absence of work, but a deep, inward peace that comes from being in union with Him.
The rest that Christ offers is a result of surrendering our burdens and striving to Him, and it allows us to cease from our own works and trust in His completed work.
To enter into Christ as our rest is to stop trying to work out our salvation in our own strength. It means receiving His grace and peace, knowing that His yoke is easy and His burden is light.
In this rest, we experience the fullness of the Christian life, as we cease from our efforts and allow Christ to live in and through us.
To enter into Christ as our rest:
1.Come to Christ in your weariness – Let Him carry your burdens (Matthew 11:28).
2.Take His yoke upon you – Submit to His leading and learn from His example (Matthew 11:29).
3.Rest in His finished work – Trust that all has been completed in Christ for you (Hebrews 4:9-10).
Main Points:
– Christ as Our Rest: Jesus offers us a deep inward peace in Him.
– Ceasing from Our Own Striving: We enter into rest by surrendering our efforts and trusting in His work.
– The Light Burden of Christ: His yoke is easy, and He helps us carry our burdens.
Prayer Confessions:
Lord, thank You for the rest You offer. Help me to come to You with all my burdens.
Teach me to take Your yoke upon me and learn from You.
Let me experience the rest that comes from trusting in Your finished work, Amen.
