Devotional 211: The Practice of Abiding

In John 15:5, Jesus illustrates the vital relationship between the vine and the branches, emphasizing that apart from Him, we can do nothing. This signifies that our ability to bear spiritual fruit depends entirely on our abiding in Christ.

Witness Lee teaches that to abide in the Lord is to be one spirit with Him, living and walking by the Spirit. This requires us to recognize our organic union with Christ and live according to this reality.

Main Points:

  • Organic Union with Christ: Understanding that we are organically joined to Christ as branches to the vine, sharing in His life and nature.
  • Living by the Spirit: Abiding in Christ involves living and walking by the Spirit, aligning our actions and thoughts with His will.
  • Bearing Fruit: Our fruitfulness in the Christian life is a direct result of our abiding in Christ and allowing His life to flow through us.

Reflection/Activity:

Consider your daily routines and identify areas where you can more intentionally abide in Christ. Practice acknowledging His presence throughout the day and seek to align your actions with the leading of the Holy Spirit. Observe how this intentional abiding influences your interactions and decisions.

Prayer Points:

Lord, reveal to me the reality of my union with You as a branch in the vine.

Empower me to live and walk by the Spirit, remaining in constant fellowship with You.

Enable me to bear much fruit, reflecting Your character and love to those around me.

Keep me aware of my dependence on You, acknowledging that apart from You, I can do nothing.

Strengthen my commitment to abide in You daily, growing deeper in our relationship, Amen.
