Romans 8:13, “For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.”
The Christian life is one of walking according to the Spirit, not according to the flesh. The flesh, with its natural desires and lusts, is at enmity with God and leads to death. However, when we live by the Spirit, we are empowered to overcome the flesh and live a life that pleases God.
The Spirit is not merely a force; He is the person of the Triune God who dwells within us, enabling us to live the victorious Christian life. By the Spirit, we put to death the deeds of the body, experiencing the victory of Christ over sin and death.
To live by the Spirit:
1.Yield to the Spirit’s leading daily (Romans 8:14).
2.Reckon yourself dead to sin but alive to God (Romans 6:11).
3.Walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the desires of the flesh (Galatians 5:16).
Main Points:
– The Flesh vs. the Spirit: The flesh leads to death, but the Spirit leads to life.
– Victory Over the Flesh: By the Spirit, we can overcome sin and the works of the flesh.
– Living in the Spirit: Our life is in the Spirit, who empowers us to live for God.
Prayer Confessions:
Lord, help me to yield to the Spirit in all areas of my life.
Empower me by Your Spirit to overcome the desires of the flesh.
Let my life be a testimony of victory through the Spirit, Amen.
