Devotional 230: Man in God’s Image and Likeness

Genesis 1:26–28; Psalm 8:4–6; Colossians 3:10; Ephesians 4:24

The climax of creation is man: “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion.” Man is created to express God (image) and represent God (dominion). Unlike other creatures, man bears the capacity to contain God’s life and express His character.

Psalm 8:4–6 marvels that God crowned man with glory and honor and set him over the works of His hands. In the New Testament, believers are renewed in the image of Christ (Colossians 3:10) and are to put on the new man created after God in righteousness and holiness (Ephesians 4:24).

God’s original intention is that man would be filled with His life, express Him on earth, and exercise His authority over creation.

Main Points:

  • Man was created in God’s image to express Him.
  • Man was given dominion to represent God on earth.
  • The new man in Christ restores God’s original intention.

Cross References:

  • Psalm 8:4–6 – Man crowned with glory and honor.

Prayer Points:

Lord, renew me in Your image daily.

Transform me to express Your glory on earth.

Empower me to exercise Your dominion in life.

Lord, restore in me Your original intention for man.

Cause me to reign in life through Jesus Christ, Amen.
