Devotional 218: The Church as the Fullness of Christ

The church is not merely a gathering of believers but is described as the Body of Christ, His fullness.  as the Body, the church is the expression of Christ, who fills all in all. This means that the church is to be the manifestation of Christ’s life and nature on the earth, displaying His character and works.

For the church to function as the fullness of Christ, each member must experience Christ personally and corporately. This involves being built up together in love, growing into maturity, and functioning according to the measure of Christ’s gift in each one.

Main Points:

  • The Church as Christ’s Body: The church is the Body of Christ, intrinsically connected to Him as its Head.
  • Expression of Christ’s Fullness: As His Body, the church expresses the fullness of Christ, manifesting His character and virtues.
  • Unity in Diversity: The church comprises diverse members, each uniquely gifted, contributing to the harmonious functioning of the Body.
  • Growth into Maturity: Believers are called to grow in Christ, building up the Body toward spiritual maturity.
  • Participation in God’s Plan: The church plays a vital role in God’s eternal purpose, showcasing His wisdom and multifaceted grace.

Reflection/Activity:

Reflect on your role within the Body of Christ. Consider how your unique gifts and experiences contribute to the church’s expression of Christ’s fullness. Engage in fellowship with other believers, encouraging and edifying one another to grow into the fullness of Christ.
