John 15:1-5; KJV
[1] I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. [2] Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. [3] Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. [4] Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. [5] I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Colossians 2:6-7; KJV
[6] As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: [7] rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
Galatians 2:20, AMP
I have been crucified with Christ [that is, in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body I live by faith [by adhering to, relying on, and completely trusting] in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
In John 15:5, Jesus says, “I am the vine; you are the branches. He who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing.” The relationship between Christ and believers is one of life and dependence.
I teach and often emphasize that abiding in Christ means remaining in constant fellowship with Him, drawing life and nourishment as a branch draws from the vine. This abiding life leads to fruit-bearing, which glorifies God and manifests His life.
Colossians 2:6-7 encourages us to walk in Him, being rooted and built up in Him. Galatians 2:20 reveals the secret of abiding: “It is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me.”
Thought of the day/Main points – Christ as the vine is the source of life for believers.
– Abiding in Him leads to fruitfulness and glorifies God.
– A life rooted in Christ expresses His life through us.
Prayer Confessions:
